On our anniversary trip to Kauai I made a packing list of essentials if you are going to Hawaii. We flew to Hawaii in April and needed things in our bags for hiking, water excursions, scattered rain showers, and a condo.
It may be easier to watch “on location” my video. But one of the must haves for vacations is sunglasses.
A travel hack is to use your soft-sided lunch box as a packing cube in the carry-on suitcase or in a personal item bag.
We travel with Peeps for your eyeglass cleaner. I bought one for my car and one that I keep in my travel tote. If visiting a beach, though, we recommend a wipe because of the suntan lotion.
I highly recommend these bathing suits from Amazon. Both of these have secure coverage bottom pieces and are true to size. I am wearing large and I’m a size 10 before that macadamia nut sticky bun.
Red Dirt in Hawaii
We packed water shoes for a hike. Most of the places we visited in Kauai are gravel roads and sidewalks. But I forgot my beach shoes so I wore these to the beach. They are so soft and lightweight you do not even realize you are wearing them, but they have a very rugged sole!
I also appreciated having sandals with arch support and a rugged sole for when I did not want to wear my tennis shoe. But they are water-resistant.
Travel Tip for Hawaii: You may want to take your old pair of tennis shoes because of stains from the red dirt in Hawaii.
I took a lot of jewelry (for me) but packed the fun bracelets in a pouch. My earrings were packed in a liquid container.
Medicine Stay Cold During Long Flight
This trip I needed to take a cooler for my medicine so that it would stay cold for more than the 10 hour flight.
This insulated aluminum cooler for traveling with medicine also comes in larger containers. 100% recommend!
Also for hotel is hotel slippers, remember the travel hack for them is to pack them flat, not in the roll up case to save space.
If you do not use a peanut butter lid to not forget your rings, car keys and key card in a hotel room, pack a valet tray. It also packs flat in your bag. The color helps you not forget them.
Bags for the Beach
I take this belt bag to a beach or pool vacation trip for 3 reasons. 1 it can be hosed out after getting sand in it. 2 it is large enough to pack beach essentials like a reading glasses case, key card and phone. 3 It allows me to be hands free if walking on the beach.
You may only want a lanyard type for the rental car key and your ID and a credit card. This happens to be RFID blocking and you can remove the lanyard.
Dresses
My dresses were so fun for a Hawaii vacation. Since it was my husband and my anniversary trip, I packed 3!
Wore one to get a couples massage and 2 to restaurants. None are see-through!
But if you want to wear long dresses and protect your thighs from rubbing together, I am a fan of these slip shorts (note: two sizes to choose from).
