Many of you are trying figure out the best shoes for fall travel when the forecast predicts unpredictable rain and slick streets.

In this video, I’m sharing 13 versatile, comfortable, waterproof, and water-resistant shoes that protect your feet without ruining your vacation outfits or weighing down your carry-on luggage. You will stay dry and pack light.

1. Columbia Water Resistant Sneaker

They fit like a glove with a solid step. True sneaker I wore on a road trip when there was a high chance of rain in the forecast. It was pouring when I ran into the gas station during the trip, I was covered.

Travel Tip: Gray is a versatile color for your vacation outfit color scheme.

2. Waterproof Blondo Sneaker

It is cute and functional, also in solid colors.

Travel Tip: I have a freebie to download with your shoes you will pack and list the outfits for each pair.

When packing shoes for unpredictable weather forecast on vacation, your travel tip is to consider your excursions and events you will need shoes for SO THAT you can pair down how many you pack in your carry-on luggage.

3. Teva Waterproof Sandal

Waterproof sandal if it is warm in October with arch support, no slipping if your feet are wet, solid base to prevent you from twisting your ankle, and velcro closure.

Travel Tip: pack a trash bag for the return trip in case your shoes are dusty or muddy.

4. Merrell Wrapt

I bought as soon as I got home from a summer trip in Greece because my friend raved about them. Waterproof but they have the barefoot technology, which in friend to friend talk means they feel like hug your foot without squeezing. True hiking shoe but a sneaker. Love them, and now they have all these cute ones.

5. Waterproof Blondo Slip-on

Very comfortable; I would size down or use an arch support insole with your normal size.

6. On Cloud 6 Waterproof

These have a rugged sole, but size up a whole size. We saw these all over Europe. They have a stiffer sole, so you may want to do what I do and swap it for a cushioned insole.

Travel Tip: My most important tip is to always pack at least one water resistant shoe whether you are going to Florida or Florence, Italy. Now you have packed for the what if.

7. Waterproof Blondo Block Heel

These are not heavy. It is fun to pack for flare leg denim as well as the cropped jeans. Would be great walking to a piazza for dinner or going to hear an orchestra in Vienna with a black pant.

One classic travel tip is to wear your heaviest shoes in the airplane, but here is the one mistake I made:

We were going straight to a ceremony from the airport to support Chris becoming a Captain.  I wore my cute tall pull-on boots, a wool skirt and turtleneck on the airplane.

I about fell over from losing my balance trying to get them off. Boots for your travel outfit must have a zipper!

8. Olukai Water Resistant Trail Sneaker

You may just want a cute train sneaker that is comfortable and casual chic. Look at the great sole giving you grip.

Here is a tip: pack them laces down on the luggage handle part because they will collapse or compress easily when you close your suitcase.

9. My Go-to Shoe for Europe by Ecco

It is water repellent, and I know because I have worn it in rain. So if there is unpredictable weather you can pack for just in case with these. The arch support makes them comfortable for walking all day. There is added padding throughout the sole. Laces are easy to tie. I cannot say enough about these sneakers to pack for Europe in the Fall.

10. Low Top Ankle Sneaker by Ecco

This is also a 6 year favorite shoe for women because they can look elevated with a pant in the same color using the monochromatic travel outfit strategy. But they are sneakers. I wore these to so many soccer games because we walked on loose gravel.

Hiking Type Shoes

11. Moab 3 Waterproof Hiking Shoe

This is a sneaker with a grooved sole for loose gravel or mud. I could walk all day in these comfortable Merrell shoes!

12. Waterproof NORTIV 8 Hiking Boots

These are from Walmart. They are slip-resistant and Lightweight like the other shoes I have. Comfortable for walking while also on a Hiking Trail in the Rain.

Consider this for travel:

If you will be outside, do you really need a boot, or could you pack an low top hiking shoe or sneaker?

If it snows while on your September or October Fall trip:

13. Waterproof Fur Lined Boot

This warm, waterproof, non-slip boot lets you walk outside all day.  It is fur lined and an Ankle Boot, and on Amazon.

Now whether you’re facing wet pavement on cobblestone streets, muddy hiking trails, or loose gravel on your autumn trip, you have a shoe that keeps you dry without ruining your outfits.
